FAQ's

  • What is included in my stay at Acorn Shores Cottage?

Your stay at Acorn Shores Cottage includes access  to the home's full coffee bar, a private outdoor fire pit and dock,2 kayaks and a canoe (shared with the lake house next door), grill, a spacious deck with plenty of outdoor seating, and more. Whether you're looking to relax, entertain, or explore, Acorn Shores has everything you need for an unforgettable getaway.

  • Can I bring a long trailer?

Yes, ample parking for both trailers and vehicles is available, and there is a round-about for turning trailers around.  In winter, there will be access to an additional roadside trailer parking space.

  • What do you do to prevent bugs?

While there may be few harmless insects that get through our defenses and into the house, both homes are regularly treated to minimize the presence of spiders, mosquitoes, ticks, and other insects.

  • What is the depth like at the end of the dock?

The depth at the end of our dock is approximately 4 ft and suitable for boaters who wish to dock their boats.  The length of the dock is currently 16 ft.

  • Is the grill gas or charcoal?

Our grill is a combination of charcoal and smoker, perfect for preparing delicious and succulent smoked meals for the entire family. Our goal is to keep vacation simple and stress-free for Mom! :-)  A small supply of charcoal is kept on site and is available on a first come, first served basis.

  • How close are the neighbors?

Our neighbors are 150 ft away and are retirees. Our homes are separated by a forested area. The no-wake rule on McClain Lake creates a peaceful and quiet environment.  For more recreational boating activities, access the other lakes on the Tiger Cat chain through the navigable channel to Upper Twin.

  • Can we get an early check-in/late check-out?

Early check-ins and late check-outs are available upon request and subject to availability. We will do our best to accommodate your needs and ensure a seamless and stress-free arrival and departure experience. Early check-ins before 2 PM will incur an additional $35 charge/hour requested.

  • What are your dog policies?

Dogs are welcome at all Wildwood Escapes Properties.  All dogs on the property are expected to be well-behaved, good around unfamiliar people, and non-aggressive.  All dogs must be registered with the completion of a dog agreement. An extra cleaning fee of $100/dog applies to preserve the cleanliness of the property for the next guests.  Large Coolaro dog beds, a variety of chew toys, treats, bowls, and doggie bags are provided.  This property has a limit of 1 dog unless otherwise authorized.

  • What are your cancellation and payment policies?

50% of your total is due at the time of booking to reserve your dates.  30 days prior to check-in, your card will be charged for the remainder of your balance.  Should you need to cancel, please let us know at least 30 days prior to your stay and you will receive a 97% refund on anything paid (we recoup 3% of what is paid to cover credit card costs).  We also offer and encourage trip insurance after booking for guests who would like that extra peace of mind.

Things to Do

  • Fishing

Discover excellent fishing opportunities on the Tiger Cat Flowage, known for its Class A musky waters. Catch musky, perch, and bluegill or try your luck fishing from our new dock for bass and panfish! A book with more detailed fishing information and maps is available in the Lake House.

  • ATV/Snomobiling

Round Lake Township prohibits ATV/UTV/snowmobiles on town roads, but a 4-minute drive to the CAMBA Mountain Bike Trailhead offers access to 300+ miles of trails. Parking for up to 2 trailers is available and maneuvering is made easy with the use of a roundabout.

  • Swimming

While swimming in McClain may not be ideal due to its mucky bottom, guests can enjoy a comfortable dip by attaching our provided lily pad to the end of the dock. For a change of scenery, swim off a pontoon or visit the island in the nearby lake for a fun beach experience. Re-create the beach-like fun for young children with our boat-themed sandbox, safely located away from the water, providing peace of mind for parents while kids play.

  • Boating

On McClain Lake there is a peaceful boating atmosphere due to a no-wake rule. However, if you still want to experience full rec activities, there is a navigable channel to Upper Twin Lake which is full rec from 10AM-5PM everyday.

While enjoying your day, make sure to stop by the Black Iron Grill, located 4 minutes away at the boat launch, where you can have a delicious meal right from your boat. If you would like to rent a pontoon, Hayward Power Sports at the same launch is your go-to place. They have everything you need for a great day on the water.

Once you've booked your trip, we'll send you an email with a discount code for 10% off your equipment rental (includes ATVs, snowmobiles, and pontoons). If you decide to bring your own boat, you will be pleased to know that there is plenty of parking available and a roundabout at the end of the drive to make maneuvering your boat a breeze. The resort has 2 docks for mooring boats so you can easily head out on the water without any hassle. Pack your gear and head out to enjoy a day filled with adventure and excitement on the lake!

  • Biking/Hiking

Head out the door, down the peaceful lake road, and explore the nearby trails via the Gravel Pit Road trailhead/CAMBA MTN BIKE trail (.5 miles away) which leads to over 300 miles of mountain bike, ATV, and running trails.
